A COMMON GOOD CORPORATION

Elemental Ecosystems is a for-benefit social

enterprise - a business focused on solving society's growing environmental problems.

Over the last 10,000 years,
humans have desertified 1/3 of earth's land, causing widespread hunger and thirst.

We are making the earth sick.

FEEDBACK LOOPS

Sick Earth

Hot air repels maritime humidity, and when it rains, water can't penetrate the warm earth, feeding these cycles:

  • flood and drought
  • fire & desertification
  • water scarcity
  • extreme climate events

HEALTHY Earth

Rain draws maritime humidity onto land and water penetrates the cool earth, feeding these cycles:

  • forest regeneration
  • fungal & bacterial symbiosis
  • abundant fresh water
  • balanced climate

WHAT WE CAN DO

Consider the elemental relationship between biology and hydrology.  We are in control.

  • Feed health earth feedback loops
  • Work with nature’s momentum
  • Decentralized water retention
  • Plant a forest
  • Responsibly manage resources

OUR TEAM

ZACHARY WEISS
Founder & President

Protégé of revolutionary Austrian farmer Sepp Holzer, Zach is the first person to earn Holzer Practitioner certification directly from Sepp - through a rigorous two-year apprenticeship working on projects in North America and Europe.

Blending a unique combination of systems thinking, empathy and awareness, Zach created Elemental Ecosystems to provide an action-oriented process to improve clients' relationship with their landscape.

BEN SHEPARD
Project Developer

Ben's interest in the interfaces between humans and their environment led him to obtaining a degree in Sustainable Foods and Bio-Energy Systems from Montana State University. An ecological approach to systems design remains the core of his philosophy on agriculture.

With almost a decade of experience ranging from implementation to management of ecological systems, Ben's exited to be furthering our clients’ goals through enhancing the ecosystems in which they reside.

ALEXANDER KAUL
Project Developer

Born on a homestead in southern Minnesota, Alexander has always had a deep connection and gratitude for the land. At 18, Al left for a fishing job in Alaska and never looked back - now the captain of his own vessel.

A graduate of the Sustainable Food and Bio-Energy Systems program at MSU, Al is dedicated to planting our ancestor’s wisdom back in the ground so that future generations are able to enjoy Mother Earth as we have been able to.

SARAH PHILLIPS
Operations Manager

Holding a degree in Sustainable Food and Bio-Energy Systems from Montana State University, Sarah’s experiences have included studying different farm management/health practices in rural Morocco and various crop production systems in North America.

Sarah’s passion for traveling and learning brings a unique and resilient perspective to our team.  She is the glue, providing the interaction and connection for our network to grow.
